Managing Your Self is the first of the three SWITCH courses within our PATH Programme, Managing for Success. Managing for Success has been endorsed by the Chartered Management Institute (UK), an organisation that for over 60 years has been dedicated to developing and supporting world class leaders and managers throughout their careers. It is the only chartered professional body dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence.

Leading for Success and Managing for Success are the two programmes we have developed in conjunction with CMI which enable you to be awarded the CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership. If you already have 5 years management experience, obtaining this Certificate will enable you to apply for globally-recognised designation of Chartered Manager. Yay!

Why study this course?

This course is all about introducing you to how best to manage yourself. You’ll learn how your management style impacts others. The process of constructing a personal development plan and learning how you can modify your management style will help you become a more effective manager. When you are finished you will be able to:

Explain the purpose of a personal development plan for the middle manager and the organisation


Discuss a management style and its impact on the middle manager’s need to work with others


Construct a personal development plan that addresses a middle manager’s short and longer term needs


Course overview

This course is all about you and your effectiveness as a manager. Do you sometimes feel that you know what needs to be done but have trouble implementing or achieving your goal? Do you not always understand others’ behaviour towards you? We focus on the concepts of power and control and provide you with an opportunity to review how these two important ideas impact you as a manager. We explore how to develop trusting relationships and learn the importance of delegation to effective management practice. We also review how best to communicate with your team in order to achieve your organisational goals.

You will have an opportunity to learn about a range of different management styles and to see where your natural style fits. And finally, you will have an opportunity to create a Personal Development Plan to help you improve as a manager.
